Flipping Phantom: the platformer where you can't jump, and that's the point

Flipping Phantom

Loot Score8.3/10

Stats updated · refreshed from Steam every few hours

Flipping Phantom is a pixel-art puzzle platformer with one cheeky rule: you can't jump. Instead your little phantom phases into solid ground and flips gravity to explore the negative space underneath, floating to slow a fall. You're on a mission to rescue a lost kitten from the tentacled monsters overrunning a labyrinthine graveyard, which is about as cute and spooky as it sounds.

Each world adds a new twist on flipping and floating, and the ideas stack together beautifully. Once falling up makes sense, it starts asking you to fall sideways. There are more than 50 hand-crafted puzzle levels and a secret-packed graveyard overworld with pumpkins to collect. It teaches everything without a single word of text, and failure tends to come from being clever too slowly rather than from fiddly fingers, though a few sections do want some precision. Fans of VVVVVV will feel right at home.

Set your expectations: it's short. Most people will see the credits in around two to three hours, a bit longer if you chase every secret. At $4.99 that's a very good deal, it has full controller support, and there's a demo to try. It's Windows-only and hasn't been rated for Deck.
